Sold the Sony FX1 today. No more tapes, no more capturing, no more tape glitches no more HDV, no more FX1

Great camera, I just see the way things are going and HDV will become no more in the not too distant future. So the plan is to build a rig for the 7D.

A sum up of the year 2010

I finally put together a new demo reel of a selection of things ive worked on over the last 12 months. I will change it again in a few months, i just needed to get something online quick!

An Audio Visual Performance: Moderat Live

I filmed a gig recently with "Moderat" and I had not heard the music until i was at the venue filming. I was completely blown away by the visuals that were projected behind the DJ's, the music and the audio worked together like no other. I was almost so distracted that i couldn't film them, i found myself stood watching the projections, taking in the music not even thinking about the filming. I found the video that was being projected online and i have been watching it over and over.

Cardiff skate plaza opened up last weekend. We'd been there a couple of times previous and built up a bit of footage, together with what i got at the weekend there was enough to make this little edit. Here it is!....

Patience

Filming for a skate video means having a lot of patience, which is the same for the skaters. Sometimes i guess it can get a bit too much...

Finished the second in the series of the exist clothing video promo's. Pleased on how it came out, and with music from none other than Dan McCrabbbers! Hopefully we will be getting out and filming some more stuff on the TV, maybe play back some old skool swansea scene video's on it.

Well The green screen works ok so far. Still need some more work. Pretty stoked on my first attempt though!

Round Two

Take two of the TV shoot. After the problems with the first attempt, we thought we would film it in daylight using a green screen over the TV and super impose the video onto it. Still not sure how this is going to work out yet when it comes to editing, but we gave it a go anyway. Things worked out surprisingly well with the filming this time. Sam Austin skated the TV and got a few tricks... so i guess i'll just have to see how it works out when i come to edit it. I think i will shoot some more, but next time do it at night and use lights to light up the skater.

Finished another music video this week. Basically i got asked if i could help film someone who was making the video for Friends Electrics new single release. I turned up and ended up pretty much having to direct the whole shoot with Chloë. I didn't mind, because thats the kind of thing i enjoy doing. So anyway, after filming we have all the footage and basically the person who was supposed to be editing just wasn't... so i ended up doing that too. So, here it is, filmed directed and edited by me and Chloë...

TV setup take 1

So Me and Chloë tried to make the TV video today of someone skating on a Plasma TV. All i can say is that everything went very wrong. We arrived at the location and it seemed perfect, good weather and not too many people around, so i start to set everything up. All is good until i pull the cord to fire up the generator and the bloody thing snaps off in my hand. So with big thanks to T-Puds and an hour later we get the thing fixed, only to find its out of juice. Off i run to sainsburys to fill up a jerry can, and all looks like its ready for the go ahead. The generator blasts into life... TV on... DVD player running, things were looking good. So me and Chloë start filming Jess with a couple of intro shots, the lights getting low, but its all good. To finish the day off, the generator keeps on switching off... now ive never used one of these things before, but it turns out you need part petrol part oil, so basically i was over it. It was dark, we had no Oil, the skater was way too damn stoned to even know what was going on, I called it a day. On the plus side... everything is still intact so were good to go ahead another day.

Chloë had been assigned a project in uni entitled "External Project." She asked me if i wanted to get involved and we ended up working on it together. We decided on the location of the pier, and the concept developed from there.

Anyway, here's the finished Edit. Edited and Graded in Final Cut Pro

After moving out of Gower to live n town, i found myself back there only this time to try out some hills with Evs. It was pretty icy and the sun was in the wrong place for the a follow shot in the car. we ended up mainly filming some tracking shots which actually turned out quite nicely.

Also went to Mumbles for some sunset shots.

A work in progress...

went filming for the bike video and tried out some POV style shots using the car. Ghetto setup involving the tripod sticking out of the roof! It worked ok, but the road was pretty bumpy so it showed up quite a lot in the video.
